We live in times when the world’s economy is faltering. As a result, wealthy people are looking for safe havens – not just tax havens – for their funds.

It seems that one of those safe havens is gold. And that is why the rich people of the world are buying gold.

Since we have to follow the trends set by those in the know, I too decided to buy gold.

But where to buy gold?

In an old, very old and dusty book, which I found among the rubble of a hermitage in the Taunus Mountains, I read that there is a hidden valley, narrow, narrow and dark, which climbs steeply up the northern slope of the Taunus, in which there is a small colony of birch, beech and oak trees, with the occasional aspen, which do extraordinary work in gold.

So I decided to go and visit this tree colony dedicated to goldsmithing.

At first it was not easy to be accepted by the trees. They know the human species very well and fear us like fire, if not more.

After a few weeks among them, learning from their silence and immobility, I was finally accepted by them and they showed me their work, work that requires time and silence, essential tools to create the pieces they make.

When I offered them money for their work, they began to tremble from root to crown and the little forest filled with sounds reminiscent of mad laughter. Somehow I came to understand that the best thing I could do with the money was to compost it to make good humus for trees and plants. And I was presented with four extraordinary pieces of jewellery.

Tiempos de invertir en oro

Vivimos tiempos en los que la economía del mundo se tambalea. Por ello, las personas ricas buscan refugios – no solo fiscales – para sus fondos.

Al parecer, uno de esos refugios es el oro. Y por ello, las personas ricas de ese mundo, compran oro.

Como hay que seguir las tendencias que nos marcan las personas que saben, yo también decidí comprar oro.

Pero, ¿dónde comprar oro?

En un libro antíguo, muy antiguo y polvoriento, que encontré entre los escombros de una ermita de la Sierra del Taunus, leí que exíste un recóndito valle, estrecho, angosto y oscuro, que se encarama abruptamente por la ladera norte del Taunus, en el que habita una pequeña colonia de abedules, hayas y robles, con algún álamo temblón, que realizan extraordinarios trabajos en oro.

Así que decidí ir a visitar esa colonia arbórea dedicada a la orfebrería.

Al principio no fue fácil ser aceptado por los árboles. Conocen muy bien a la especie humana y nos temen como al fuego, si no más.

Tras unas semanas entre ellos, aprendiendo de su silencio e inmovilidad, al fin fui aceptado por ellos y me enseñaron sus trabajos, trabajos que requieren tiempo y silencio, herramientas esenciales para llegar a crear las piezas que elaboran.

Cuando les ofrecí dinero por sus obras, empezaron a temblar desde la raíz hasta la copa y el pequeño bosque se llenó de sonidos que recordaban a locas carcajadas. De alguna manera llegué a entender que lo que mejor podía hacer con el dinero era compostarlo para hacer un buen humus para árboles y plantas. Y me ragalaron cuatro extraordinarias obra de joyería.
