Those with an interest in the matter have long been aware that the number of animal and plant species at risk of extinction, or clearly on the verge of extinction, is on the rise.

At present, in Europe, the media are reporting on the state of the continent’s major rivers. The situation is dire, with water levels at an all-time low.

Governments seem to view the problem from a different perspective: the impossibility of transporting goods by river due to the shallow water levels is seriously damaging the economy. Consequently, government leaders are trying to ensure that goods are transported via other routes. Problem solved.

During these days of extreme heat and drought, whilst I was going through my photo catalogue, I realised that we landscape photographers are a sort of notary who, in times gone by, recorded the existence of landscapes that have now disappeared, or are clearly on the verge of extinction.

Paisajes en vías de extinción

Hace tiempo que las personas interesadas saben que van en aumento las especies animales y vegetales en peligro de extinción, o claramente en vías de extinción.

Estos días, en Europa, los medios de información difunden el estado de los principales ríos del contienente. Un estado lamentable, con caudales mínimos como nunca se habían visto.

Los gobiernos parece que perciben el problema desde otra prespectiva: la imposiblidad del transporte fluvial de mercancías debido al poco calado de los ríos perjudica seriamente a la economía. En consecuencia, lo que hacen los dirigentes gubernamentales es intentar que las mercancías se transporten por otras vías. Problema resuelto.

Estos días de calor y sequía extremos, mientras repasaba mi catálogo de fotos, me dí cuenta de que los fotógrafos de paisaje somos una especie de notarios que, en tiempos pasados, levantamos acta de la existencia de unos paisajes que han desaparecido, o están claramente en vías de extinción.
